red majestic revivaldocumentary

Kazuki Obayashi. What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear this name? K break, VIP, sedan, and the popular serialized project "Omori Gohan" may be one of them. However, dismissing them, the first thing that comes to mind is probably "Red Majesty".

Origin of Obayashi-san. Up until now, it all started with Majesta. Without “Majesta,” there would be no current “Kazuki Obayashi.” It is an existence so important that it is safe to say so.

And finally move. Red Mage, resurrection.

From this time, VIP Style will exclusively introduce the "Red Majeer Revival Documentary". The beginning of an endless journey. What kind of ending awaits? I can't help but look forward to it.

In this first installment, we interviewed "the truth behind the revival of Red Maje". He answered frankly about the "three things" that I'm worried about now, "the truth of the revival", "base car" and "completion drawing".

The reason for the revival of Red Majee

I've made two Red Majes so far, but to be honest, the second generation ended in a disappointing way for me. I actually intended to keep it forever, but it didn't come true... So I decided to do it again someday. And the next one is for life. I was thinking of making a red majestic that I could keep by my side all the time.

02.jpg

I got the 3rd generation bass about 10 years ago. However, at that time, the company was having a tough time, so I didn't touch it and kept it. So 2-3 years ago, we finally put in the air suspension. But it didn't go further, and I kept it.

That's how I felt, but even if I made a Red Majesty when I turned 50, I wouldn't be able to ride it until I turned 60, so I had no time left. It takes a lot of time to make it, so I have to get serious about it soon. So we started making various arrangements, and since we had decided where we would be able to do things like the fenders, body processing, and interiors, we decided to go all out.

Q. Age was a big point.

About 60 years old, of course, if I can ride, I will ride forever. When I think about things like my body and my eyes, I think that the turning point will be around 60 years old, for some reason. So, when I calculated backwards, I thought that if I didn't start now, it would be terrible.

Q. I feel that the existence of my juniors and friends is helping to revive Red Maje. How is it?

My juniors kept telling me, "I want you to make Red Majesty again," and each time I said, "I'll do it." , was inevitably postponed.

But this time, there is a junior named Hotta who is driving Aristo, and he said, "I want to make a cool car, so please watch over me. I want Glow Redly to be revived. And I want you to join the team." hand. This story was written in the previous issue of "VIP Style".

03_P1083436.jpg

So, for several months, I watched Hotta make cars. After all, when I saw him making things on site, I started to feel the urge to do it myself. I want to do red majesty too. After that, I made Hotta officially join Glow Reddry, but at present, I'm the only one in Glow Reddry. .

So, for the restart of Glow Red Lee, Red Majee was absolutely necessary.

Q. Were you encouraged by the presence of your friends?

I agree. It's not the trigger for Red Majeer's revival, but the presence of my friends is encouraging. When I was the owner, when VIP was the best, my friends who came with me are coming back and trying to do it again. It would be nice to know that kind of thing on SNS. A friend who came to VIP together more than 20 years ago. It would be great if the time came to line up cars with them now.

Surprisingly, there are many cases in which people who used to be VIPs kept the cars of that time carefully, even though they don't show it to the public. He even told me, "I'll only put it out at K-break events." However, I haven't been able to hold an event for many years... That's why I'd be happy if I could do something like "If Obayashi-kun is doing Red Majesty, I'll do it again," and he'll do VIP again.

Q. VIP style is one of the reasons for restarting Red Majee!?

I always had a sense of danger. But I thought it wouldn't go away. VIP is part of the culture, so I don't think it will ever go away. But this time, it was a shock to me that the VIP style would no longer be a regular magazine.

It was a shock at first, but gradually, somehow, I wanted to liven up VIP again. For that reason, I'm definitely going to finish Red Maje this time. At the same time, we decided to work on the aero for the sedan, which we had neglected to develop. For the aero parts, the last few titles had a lot of small parts, but on the contrary, they said that they had to go against the times and make a full van. This movement of VIP style is a trigger that burns in me like that.

To put it simply, it's because I want to do it. On top of that, I think that when we are having fun, the people around us who see it are also affected, so it would be nice to create a virtuous cycle like that. Ultimately, I want to make it for myself, enjoy riding it myself, and on the extension of that, it would be great if the VIPs get excited.

It's a story about road racers, but when there's an event, they join us in the middle and head to the venue as if they were joining us. The other day, when I took my juniors with me, they said, ``The road racers are amazing.

When I heard that, I thought that VIP was like that in the beginning. We would meet at any parking lot, meet up there, and head to the venue together. It was so much fun running with everyone. So, when Red Majee comes back and we go to an event, like that, we all go to the event, line up together, and talk wildly together. I would like to recreate the VIP atmosphere of our happy days.

Q. What is the reason for the revival of Red Majesty and the revival of Honne?

Like this, when I was asked the reason for Red Maje's resurrection, there wasn't just one answer, but various answers. All of those things are what I really think, but my true feelings are very simple, and I want to enjoy myself. That's all. It's presumptuous for people.

I would be happy if the VIP industry would get excited as a result of having fun making red majestic. But first, I want to excite myself. That's the number one reason to revive Red Mage.

Kazuki Obayashi style base car selection

It is the last part of 14 Majesta, and the model year is 1994. Body color is normal white, pearl. This is a V8, but I don't care about the grade or anything like that (laughs). Anyway, what I was particular about was the goodness of the degree. The interior of this is so beautiful. It had 8,000 miles on it when I bought it. But in the end, the interior will be completely reupholstered, so it doesn't matter, but I think it's a bit of a waste. By the way, the current mileage is 10,000 km.

05_P1106390-201.jpg

I have another Majesta. Actually, at first, I was thinking of using that as a base. However, there is a part that worries me a little, but it also has a mileage of about 20,000 km.

Q. How are you doing?

The engine and electrical system are all fine, but for some reason, the brakes on both cars are out of order. Brake oil is leaking, and it feels dangerous if I don't fix it properly. I haven't looked at it properly yet, but I feel like it's leaking because the fluid is decreasing. Both have the same symptoms, so I wonder if it's a weakness of the 14 Majesta. What's more, the lack of genuine parts is a bottleneck, and repairs have to be done with something else...

The seat is also a little strange, but it moves a little. But, although it's only a plan, I'm going to replace it with an outside seat, so I think it's okay.

One more problem is coming up, and it seems that there are no arms. I need an arm to do the suspension, but there is neither genuine nor external. After all, there are many genuine processed products outside the company, so if there is no original genuine product, it naturally feels like there is no outside company. So, if you do it, it's a one-off. Therefore, I have a feeling that it will be a little difficult in the future when we boil down the suspension.

Q. Once again, when choosing a base car, what part were you particular about?

It's the number of distances if you say it forcibly. About that. It would have been nice to be afraid of the sunroof, but it's hard to come up with a sunroof. So, the two Majestas I have now have no sunroof. The 1st generation Maje had a sunroof, but the 2nd generation didn't, so it was ported. For the third generation, I really wanted a sunroof.

Q. It's been about 10 years since you got the base car?

I agree. I can't remember exactly, but it's been about 10 years or so. Actually, I was also saving Majesta. If you want to make a Majesta, the exterior and interior will be quite amazing. That's why, for the time being, I saved up Majesta savings for a long time. But that all disappeared with the recession (laughs). After all, it's my car, so I have to do it with my own money.

Q. Were they carefully stored in a warehouse with a roof?

I agree. But, after all, aging is coming out, isn't it? The mall doesn't come out anymore. That's why I took the glass off when painting, but I also want to replace the glass with new ones, but this time I may not be able to remove the glass because of the mall. I'm worried about the dullness of the mall itself, and I'm worried about what to do about it. In the past, genuine parts were available, so I was able to replace the part that bothered me with a new one. I don't have the parts right now...

06_P1106400-211.jpg

For example, I'm worried about cloudy headlights, but I don't want to use LEDs as much as possible. I want to leave a pure atmosphere. However, when it comes to beauty, it's no match for a new product. So, what I want now is 14 Majesta genuine new parts. If Toyota doesn't have it, the next thing to rely on is an online auction. From now on, I don't think I will continue to search for new parts through online auctions.

Q. By the way, what are you going to do with the other Majesta?

In case something goes wrong with the 3rd generation, I can get parts for it, but that Majesta is also a good base, so if I can afford it, I'd like to be able to ride it with the normal fender specs.

Completion rendering

Q. Obayashi-san is also famous for his love of surprises. I love to surprise people. Therefore, I think there are things that I can say and cannot say, but please tell me various things about the "completion rendering" as far as I can say.

To be honest, I don't want to introduce new technology to this 3rd generation red majestic. I don't want to mess around with the current fashion. I really feel like I'm pursuing the shape I like.

For example, when it comes to fenders, I've always liked wide fenders, and I use fenders that match the roundness of the Majesta. I don't intend to add a lot of camber, just natural + α. The processing of the aero is also as simple as possible. I'm thinking of doing something like the VIP that we were doing at the time, so we won't do anything like that.

At the time of the second generation, monitors were all the rage at the time, and I put in 88 of them (laughs). That's fine, but I also feel like I'm not good enough, and if I go too flashy, I won't be able to ride for a long time. in the long run. I'm thinking about that part, and I'm thinking of making it thinking that it's okay to have it for 10 or 20 years from now.

That's why the concept, or rather what we're aiming for, is to create a car that's fun to build in our time and that can be ridden for a long time. I want to keep this Majesta in my possession for the rest of my life.

Q. More details. what about the front and rear bumpers?

I haven't decided exactly yet. We have the second-generation Red Maje bumper, so you can use that as a base. Also, you can combine the old V-lag with the current JDM. That's how I'm thinking about it right now. The image I have in my head is still less than 50%. Once I start concentrating, I think I want to do that, I want to do this, so I'm going to boil it down while looking at the shape of the car. I have been writing for magazines for a long time. I'd do it like this I wonder if I'll do something like that again (laughs).

Q. So the overfender is a fender that matches the roundness of the Majesta?

The basis of the design is the Evo wide. The first generation used it, but the second generation also used it as a base and inflated it while slightly warping it backwards. Of course, the next 3rd generation will also be based on the Evo wide, and we will make it in that flow.

I'm not the kind of person who wants to do that or that, but once I think something's cool, I'm the type of person who wants to do it all the time. So, red majestic is Evo's wide style. When it comes to Fender, that's where I'm rooted, and I'm not going to give up on that.

Of course, I think a car with a clear fender on the 14 Maje is also cool. However, when I first saw the wide Evo in "Young Auto", I thought it was so cool that I was shocked. I still feel that way.

Q. What about wheels and suspension?

I'm thinking of letting him wear various wheels depending on his mood. Right now I'm wearing Five Stars. I'm going to do an over fender, so the size is limited. For the time being, it's Five Star, and if I find something else that I like, I might rebarrel and make it.

Five Star is a wheel that has a deep feeling. It's my first 3-piece wheel. However, when I think about it now, there are definitely things I wish I had done more like that, or things like this. Not just Five Star, but anything. Be it design or size. But it doesn't change the fact that I did my best at that time.

As for the size to be worn on the next red majestic, I'm thinking of going with 19 inches. Last time it was 18 inches. 18 inches would be fine, but 18 inches would make the tires a little rougher. Considering that, I think it's 19 inches.

08_P1106381-192.jpg

Regarding the suspension, I installed the ideal air suspension about 2 years ago. Until then, I'd always had a car damper, but I'm old now, and I don't want to avoid it while driving (laughs), and I don't want to break the bumper. I like the recent air suspension, especially the Ideal air suspension. Air suspension first. Next, after assembling the arms and squeezing the legs, I will challenge the fender processing.

Q. What kind of design is the interior?

The interior will be done as the next step after the exterior is completed. The detailed design is still undecided, but the shop to ask has been decided. Gallup did both the first Aka Maje and the second Aka Maje.

10_P1106386-197.jpg

When it comes to making cars, trust between people is very important. Gallup is from Obayashi-kun, and he has a strong feeling, and I'm very grateful for that kind of thing.

Q. I think that the body color is decided to be "red", but on top of that, have you decided what kind of red you want?

The body color is red, of course, decided. But I'm still undecided as to what to do next. Candy Red is good, and I think it would be good to change the formulation of Mazda and Lexus. Since I call myself Red Majeer, I intend to be very particular about the color.

Summary

Q. Once again, looking back at 14 Majesta for this revival, what did you think?

No matter where I look, there are nostalgic memories. It's the car I've driven the longest in my life. I bought the first generation Red Maje at around 5,000km and rode it for around 180,000km at the end. I feel like my youth was really with Majesta. Compared to today's cars, there are many things that are lacking in terms of equipment, but I still love it.

11_P1116449-16.jpg

In a bad way, I no longer have the passion that I had in my youth. However, at the age of 50, it's the first time for me to make something from scratch while remembering the feelings I had at that time, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how it will turn out.

Q. It is often said that a car is more fun when you are thinking about it than when it is completed.

I'm not quite there yet. I think that the tension will rise like that when it comes to playing around with the fender. So, at this point, it's still there (laughs).

Q. In Obayashi-san's case, everyone's expectations are quite high, so do you feel any pressure?

It's true, but I don't like it (laughs). The third generation red majesty is only made normally. In the old days, the cutting-edge technology of the time was thrown in, and everyone was oh! I made it. But even so, I can promise you one thing: the car that people who see it will think of as Obayashi-kun. I definitely want to do that.

I just do what I think is cool. It would be a lie to say that I don't care about other people's evaluations, but I don't care that much. Once it's completed, if you find something you don't like, you can redo it. I'll be riding for the rest of my life. I want to do this in the long run.

In the next installment of this series, I hope to show everyone a step further. The 3rd generation Majesta made at the age of 50. I will make it fun while rejuvenating my feelings. Please look forward to it.
